Guadalest Castle has been declared a Historic-Artistic Monument and is the second most visited monument in Spain, after the Prado Museum, with two million visitors a year. The explanation for this phenomenon is the extraordinary uniqueness of the same as it is divided into a fortress enclosure which is accessed by a door carved into the rock and some suburbs in the lower part. The Gateway gives access to the walled enclosure in which the Parish Church, dedicated to the Assumption, the Orduna House -today a Museum-, the slender exempt bell tower, the prison -in the lower part of the Town Hall- and the castles of the Alcozaiba and the King, which is the highest point of the complex, stand out.
